Cellusys and ice announce innovative Roaming VAS Partnership

ice will deploy the award-winning Cellusys roaming platform, including analytics, in a fully containerised environment, ready for event-based and 5G SA steering

Oslo, Norway and Dublin, Ireland — September 19th 2024

Today, ice and Cellusys are pleased to announce the first deployment of the full suite of Cellusys roaming applications in a containerised environment, hosted in ice’s cloud platform. The deployment of the Kubernetes-based containers sees ice in-source its roaming VAS for the first time, and includes steering of roaming and Welcome SMS for 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G NSA, including VoLTE and IoT steering, as well as 5G SA steering upon launch. In addition, using Cellusys’ Roam Insight analytics application to inform the steering system, ice will be able to implement precision, event-based steering, opening a world of new capabilities to offer and support finely segmented quality and value steering options to its consumer and enterprise customers.

“As more and more IoT and 5G use cases require differentiated quality levels, it is important that the roaming VAS system of an innovative operator, like ice, supports automated precision and quality steering based on any kind of event. Coupling visibility and control, i.e., roaming analytics and steering of roaming, paves the way for realising the potential of 5G and the growing number of quality-focused use cases.” said Daniel McTague, Chief Technology Officer at Cellusys.

ice is both IoT and VoLTE roaming ready, and we are paving the way for 5G Roaming, so we are delighted to have secured the services of the world leading experts at Cellusys. Cloudification of our network is a central pillar of our development strategy, to ensure that we can continue to deliver optimal quality of service to our subscribers and leverage innovative technologies to enhance the customer experience” said Kristian Kulsrud, Vice President of Roaming at ice.

Towards 5G SA Roaming

Global 5G roaming revenues from inbound and outbound consumer and IoT connections are set increase to more than $35 billion in 2028, representing a cumulative total of just under $100 billion over the next four years. The finally realised ramp-up in 5G SA services globally, will require an efficient and authoritative steering of roaming service that can manage the new signalling protocol (http2). The Cellusys roaming platform, the #1 rated steering of roaming solution by customers, has this capability built-in, and ice will benefit from this as it grows its subscriber base.

Founded in 2005, Cellusys is the industry leader in roaming, fraud and security, and analytics solutions for communication service providers. The company offers a wide range of products and services designed to give mobile operators visibility and control of their signalling and data traffic. Cellusys has won numerous innovation awards and is ranked as #1 vendor in roaming and security, by both ROCCO and Kaleido, excelling on Net Promoter Score.

Ice, with its top modern, robust, and efficient mobile network, is one of three mobile network operators in Norway.
