False Base Station Detection
False Base Station Detection identifies the presence of rogue base stations — also known as IMSI catchers or SMS blasters — operating in the vicinity of an operator's network. These devices impersonate legitimate base stations to intercept subscriber communications, deliver unsolicited or malicious messages, or carry out targeted attacks against individuals or groups.
The platform uses passive network-side detection techniques to identify anomalies consistent with false base station activity, including unexpected message delivery patterns, signalling anomalies, and indicators associated with SMS blasting campaigns. Detection does not require modifications to subscriber devices.
Alerts are generated in real time and made available through the operator's monitoring and reporting environment, supporting rapid investigation and response. The module integrates with the broader Fraud & Security platform, enabling correlation with signalling-layer events and messaging traffic analysis.
False base station detection supports operators in meeting regulatory obligations, protecting subscribers from targeted fraud and phishing, and maintaining confidence in the integrity of the mobile network.
