Service Communication Proxy (SCP)

The Service Communication Proxy (SCP) provides routing and mediation for 5G service-based architecture (SBA) signalling, managing HTTP/2-based communication between network functions.

The platform operates as a central control layer for NF-to-NF communication, handling service discovery, traffic distribution, and load balancing across network function instances. It supports indirect communication mode as defined by 3GPP, enabling scalable and resilient signalling without requiring each function to manage its own routing logic.

Traffic is distributed across available instances with built-in load balancing and failover, ensuring service continuity in dynamic 5G core environments. The SCP simplifies network architecture while maintaining control over signalling behaviour and resource utilisation.

The module supports 3GPP Rel-16 and later specifications and integrates with other signalling elements, including SEPP and DRA, to provide a unified signalling layer across 4G and 5G networks.
